This may turn around to bite me in the you know where but after watching Ike resume a hard WSW track, I feel good in saying that Miami is not going to take the wrath of hurricane Ike... I'm actually starting to think now that Ike will miss the keys completely and slam into Cuba... This would be the best news for the US!!! It now looks extremely likely that Ike will head into the Gulf of Mexico even though I don't see the Cat-4 landfall potential it could have been in southern Florida.... The core of Ike will most likely get destroyed when it hits Cuba, making it very tough for it to regenerate into the monster it was... It can take 3 or more days after a major hurricane loses it's core to get back to normal again (If it ever does)... Unfortunately since the first trough looks to miss Ike it will be moving fairly slow through the Gulf so it could have enough time over water (4-5 days) to get back to a major hurricane at landfall... I'm thinking more of a Cat-3 but that's so far out at this point it's really impossible to say right now... Bottom line is the ridge is holding strong, the 1st trough is not going to get Ike, and another northern Gulf coast landfall looks very likely late next week!!!
